Q - Is The SBH Young Professionals Program right for me?
A - Our primary target audience is college-age students, however, high school seniors and college graduates are welcome to apply. If you feel that you can use a mentor then this program is right for you!

Q - Who are the Young Professional Mentors?
A - GEM Mentors are community members who have found a successful career path in various fields. They understand what it is like to balance their community responsibilities while pursuing their career goals, and can offer valuable advice on how they did so.

Q - When do meetings take place?
A - This is entirely up to mentors and mentees; after one initial in-person meeting, all communication will be based on schedule and convenience. This will allow each mentor/mentee to build a relationship that works for both of them.

Q - What if my mentor/mentee isn’t right for me?
A - GEM is always here to help. If your mentor relationship is not going as well as you hoped just email us at SBHGEM@gmail.com. We will make whatever changes necessary to accommodate you as best as possible.

Q - My field of interest isn't listed.
A - Not a problem. We built our initial group of  mentors by acquiring those in fields we believe would be in high demand. This does not mean that we don’t have a mentor for you. When filling out our application, type in the field(s) you are looking into and we will do our best to find an appropriate mentor.

Q - Do I need any specific qualifications to apply?
A - By applying to our program, you have already proven that you are qualified. If you are serious about achieving personal success, then you are our target audience.

Q - How much time do I need to commit to this program?
A - As a mentee, the ball is in your court. You can get as much or as little out of this as you’d like.
B- As a mentor, we ask that you keep in touch with your assigned mentee on a schedule that works for both of you. An initial in-person meeting is highly recommended, as it will give you both an opportunity to build a more concrete relationship. Following this meeting, all correspondence can be done over the phone or by email, preferably once every other week, or before occasional milestones (ie interviews, job applications, setbacks or achievements).

Q - How can I sign up to be a mentor?
A - As our program continues to grow, we are always looking for well-qualified mentors. Please email us at SBHGEM@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Q - Who can I contact with other questions?
A -  Email us anytime at SBHGEM@gmail.com and one of the committee members will get back to you.

Please note that SBH GEM is not intended to be a job placement program, rather a facet or community members to receive career guidance from other community members. If you are currently looking for a job or internship, SBH has a full team of professionals that are ready and willing to help. Please go to the CSN Page and create an account. An intake specialist will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
